Selected problems in the pyrolysis of waste polymers. Part I. The problem related to the presence of chlorine in pyrolytic oils from the view point of the present state of knowledge

Abstract

The issue of the presence of chlorine in pyrolytic oils obtained from the pyrolysis of municipal waste polymers (MWP) has been discussed based on a review of the literature. The depending factors of the type and amount of chloroorganic compounds in the waste polymer decomposition products containing various amounts of polymers were discussed taking into consideration the presence in them of polyvinyl chloride (Table 2, Fig. 2). A MWP recycling method was proposed with regards to the initial segregation of the polymer content of the wastes according to the density (Table 1). A method for the bonding of the chlorin from chloroorganic compounds using hydrogen, metal oxides, sodium, mixed oxides and iron chloride/carbon systems was described. An analysis of the literature reveals that an effective and cost-efficient method for the elimination of chlorine from pyrolytic oils suitable for industrial scale application has not been presented.
