Study on the properties of new in-situ curable biomaterials crosslinked with methacrylic anhydride

Abstract

In this study the selected properties of new liquid curable compositions, based on poly(3-allyloxy-1,2-propylene)succinate (PSAGE), methacrylic anhydride and one of three methacrylates: methyl (MMA), butyl (BMA) or 2-ethylhexyl methacrylate (EHMA), important from the application as bone cements point of view, were characterized. Curing time and maximum curing temperature (Tmax) were determined as well as the composition and content of soluble fraction (mfr), compressive strength and modulus of cured materials and the course of hydrolytic degradation in physiological like conditions. The characteristics of the materials obtained covered also the comparison of selected properties of cured PSAGE based cement compositions and commercial bone cement OSTEOPALŽ V purposed for vertebroplasty.
