Curing of epoxy resin with hyperbranched polyamide

Abstract

Novel epoxy materials have been prepared by thermal curing of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (Epikote-828 resin) with hyperbranched aromatic polyaminoamide (HBP, scheme A). The effects of HBP molecular weight (Table 1) on the course of curing (Fig. 1) and on the properties of cured epoxy resin (EP): thermal properties (Fig. 2), dynamic mechanical properties (Table 2) and tensile properties (Table 3) were investigated. Having chosen HBP molecular weight one can control the investigated functional features of cured EP. Selected properties of novel cured EP were compared with Epikote resin cured with typical aromatic amine - 1,3-phenyldiamine (MPDA).
