Solvatochromic dyes in the investigations of polymers' structures. Part 2, Diffusion profiles in selected copoly(esterethers)

Abstract

The results of investigations of internal structure of Elitel type copoly(esterethers) were presented. Analysis of microscopic images of the section of polymer granule dyed with solvatochromic merocyanine [Formula (I), Fig. 1] allowed determining the dependence of color intensity versus distance from the surface i.e. diffusion profiles (Fig. 2-4) which were matched with theoretical curve resulting from 2nd Fick's law [equation (2)]. This way obtained diffusion coefficients (Table 1-3) show that dye penetration in polymer is non-homogeneous (occurring of two types of diffusion channels) and dependent on weight part of elastic segments in macromolecule.
