Effect of tri[(3-chloro-2-hydroxy-1-propoxy)-1-butylene]borate on the functional properties of rigid polyurethane-polyisocyanurate foams

Abstract

Tri[(3-chloro-2-hydroxy-1-propoxy)-1-butylene] borate (TChHPB) was obtained as a result of reaction of tri(hydroxybutylene) borate with epichlorohydrin. It was applied in a synthesis of rigid polyurethane-polyisocyanurate (PUR-PIR) foams, as a flame retardant and an agent improving other functional properties. Increase in TChHPB content resulted in reduction of flammability which in turn was demonstrated by increase in combustion residue (P(sp)), oxygen index (Ol) and compressive strength (sigma(M)). There was no observed effect of TChHPB on the dimensions and shapes of the pores of the foams.
