Some aspects of studies on the preparation of solid thermosetting polyester molding compounds

Abstract

Various solid binders and molding compounds based on them were investigated. Effects of the type and amount of curing agent used on the reactivity of binders (Table 1), mechanical and thermal properties of solid polyester molding compounds (Table 2) as well as on changes of binders' viscosity versus temperature (Fig. 1 and 2) were determined. The binders prepared with specially synthesized curing agents, being uretanized acrylic esters of epoxy resin or their systems with another curing agent - zinc diacrylate, showed advantageous rheological properties (Fig. 3 and 4). The effect of aliphatic chain length of glycol component of polyester on the properties of binders and molding compounds based on them was also investigated (Table 3 and 4). Dependence of chosen solid polyester molding compound viscosity (being a measure of stability) on temperature and time has been evaluated (Fig. 5).
