Granulator knife wedge angle effect on constructional efficiency of the extrusion process with polyethylene

Abstract

Constructional efficiency of granulating process was determined by conducting an autothermal extrusion process with thermal granulating of medium density polyethylene (MDPE), using a granulator with knives of different tool wedge angle values (beta angle 20-40degrees). beta angle value does not affect polymer mass flow rate (<(G)over dot>), total power consumption by the extruder with granulator and cooling device (<(Q)over dot>(C)), total power conveyed by polymer (<(Q)over dot>(w)), specific energy consumption (E-JC) and energy efficiency of the extruder with granulator and cooling device (kappa(W)) (Table 1). Change in (beta) value has a slight effect on bulk density (rhoN) and natural slip (phi) of granulated product. Decrease in (beta) value increases bulk density and reduces (phi).
