Modification of thermoplastic polymers with scrap paper cellulose fibres. Part II. Modification of polyolefins with scrap paper cellulose fibres

Abstract

The effect of the formulation of polyolefins based compositions (PE but mainly PP filled with scrap paper cellulose fibres and containing various coupling agents) on the compositions properties has been investigated (tables 1 and 2, figures 2-4). It has been found that maximal amount of scrap paper cellulose fibres which can be used in the composition is 42 wt.%. The most advantageous coupling agent appeared to be aminosilane, decreasing water absorption of the composition. The compositions obtained characterize with considerable rigidity and hardness as well as mechanical properties similar to PP filled with either the same amount of talc or 20 wt.% of glass fibre. Properties of samples obtained are suitable for chosen applications for some short use products. Properties of PE-LD based compositions are much worse than PP based ones.
