New oligomeric silylene carbonates were synthesized by condensing mono- and bifunctional silicon-compounds including trimethylchlorosilane, dimethyldichlorosilane and diphenyldichlorosilane with potassium tert-butoxide. The resulting model oligomers were found to be highly lable at room temperature; they decomposed with evolution of CO2 and could not be isolated from the reaction mixtures. IR, 1H and 13C NMR spectra run in tetrahydrofuran as solvent were used to characterize the oligomers and to suggest their chemical structures (Table 1).
