Epoxy composites for aviation industry

Abstract

The effect of the amount (1.0—3.0 wt %) of bentonites modified with quaternary ammonium or phosphonium salts on the properties of epoxy resin/glass fibre composites was studied. It was found that the mechanical properties and flame resistance of the laminates filled with the modified bentonites were significantly better than of laminates produced from an unfilled resin. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscope (AFM) studies were also performed to investigate the adhesion between the laminate components.
