Studies in the effectiveness of a new generation extruder. Part II, The shape of the inner surface of the barrel rotating sleeve

Abstract

The study comprised the determination of the effect of application of the rotating sleeve of the barrel with the inner surfaces: geometrically uniform cylindrical as well as containing rectilinear or helical grooves with triangular cross section, on the selected parameters of the extrusion process in the single screw plasticizing system (Fig. 2). Research was conducted on a special test stand equipped with the extruder with replaceable rotating sleeve of the barrel. During the extrusion of low-density polyethylene the selected parameters characterizing the extrusion process were determined by direct and indirect methods. It was found that the shape of the inner surface of the rotating sleeve of the barrel has a significant impact on the effectiveness of its influence on the course of the extrusion process.
