Geometric analysis of plasticizing system in the extruder consisting of two cone worms

Abstract

Variable-pitch cone worms, used in the plasticizing systems of extruders, whose geometry varies along the length of the screw, are often made by trial and error. Therefore, the machining of such worms requires subsequent geometric analysis, that makes it possible to assemble them into the plasticizing system. A special software programme was developed, which, on the basis of machining technology for worms using end milling cutter, allows to identify the cutter offsets Dy (taking into account the straight sides of the outline of the axial profiles of worms) and to determine the inter-thread clearance at the stage of designing the worms. An analysis of exemplary plasticizing system using the developed software supporting the design of double worm systems has been presented.
