Modeling of the polymer melt flow in a twin-screw counter-rotating extrusion process. Part II. Simulation and experimental studies - verification of the adopted model

Abstract

The verification of a computer-derived melt flow model has been performed on the basis of simulation (Figs. 6-10) and experimental studies for a twin-screw closely intermeshing starve feed extrusion (Fig. 1). The tests were carried out under various flow rate and screw rotational speed conditions. The melting process of the polymer and extent of screw chamber filling were also evaluated and pressure and torque measurements carried out. The studies confirm a good agreement between the simulation and experimental results (Figs. 11-13).
