Modeling of the process of polymers plasticization during injection molding. Part II. The melting zone

Abstract

A theoretical analysis of the phenomena occurring in the melting zone of injection screw molding machine has been presented. Mathematical expressions describing polymer melting in a three-zone screw channel under static (immobile screw) and dynamic (rotating or withdrawing screw) conditions have also been presented. The nature of coupling between the static and dynamic phases of melting process as well as the iteration methods enabling the numerical simulation of changes in the width of the relative solid bed at different stages of the injection cycle (Fig. 2.) have been discussed. The described models are indispensible tools for the calculation of the basic characteristics of the plasticization process.
