Carbofunctional silanes and polysiloxanes. Part II. Preparation and applications of carbofunctional polysiloxanes

Abstract

The vast literature review (168 references) covers most often used methods of syntheses of carbofunctional polysiloxanes (KFPS), mainly hydrosilylation or catalytic equilibration reactions, especially poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) derivatives containing end or side functional groups. The main directions of KFPS applications were discussed, namely: modification of epoxy resins, polyurethanes, polyureas, polycarbonates and other polymeric materials, preparation of membranes of high gas permeability, immobilization of ligand systems and modification of widely used thermoplastic or thermosetting polymeric materials. Applications of KFPS for special purposes, e.g. preparation of conductive silicone-pyrrole copolymers or amphiphilic polymer materials or for drugs' production (KFPS with saccharide groups) were presented as well. Synthesis of IPN network with KFPS and applications of carbofunctional polysiloxanes in processing of fullerenes were described also. It was shown that chemical modifications of various polymers with KFPS very positively affected their properties.
