Modifications of siloxane polymers

Abstract

The methods of synthesis of polysiloxanes of regular structure and their modifications resulted from side groups’ reactions (Scheme A) were presented. Especially siloxanes with vinyl groups were characterized. They are used for controlled syntheses of organosilicone macromolecular compounds (Scheme B) of various architecture - linear, grafted, hyperbranched and star copolymers. There was described one of new promising methods of polysiloxane chain modification i.e. reaction of silylative coupling (Scheme C and D) allowing obtaining new polymers showing liquid crystalline properties or non-linear optical ones. The applications of polymethylvinylsiloxanes as polymeric catalysts’ supports, e.g. palladium, platinum or rhodium complexes (Scheme H), were also presented. The syntheses of catalysts supported on polysiloxanes of various structures have been discussed as well as preliminary results of investigations of catalytic systems activities in model reactions of hydrosilylation or Heck reaction (Scheme G).
