Effect of Fischer-Tropsch synthetic wax additive on the functional properties of bitumen

Abstract

The effects of the addition of various amounts (0.5—4.0 wt %) of Fischer-Tropsch synthetic wax (F-T) to bitumen 35/50 on the penetration (P), Fraass breaking point temperature (TFraass), softening point temperature (TPiK), dynamic viscosity (η) in the temperature range of 50 to 145 °C, complex modulus (G*), zero shear viscosity (ZSV), phase angle (σ) and characteristics according to MSCR of the binder prepared using Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA) method, have been analyzed. It was found that the examined modifier, even in the amount of 1 wt %, had a beneficial effect on the functional properties of the bitumen, particularly on its rheological characteristics.
