Composites of commercial unsaturated polyester resins containing NanobentŽ nanofillers. Part I. Preparation and properties of polymer nanocomposites containing domestic nanofillers

Abstract

The composites containing ZR1 and ZR2 nanofillers, in the form of modified natural layered clays (bentonites), added in the amount of 1—5 wt. %, were obtained using unsaturated polyester resin UP103 and UP109 as a matrix. The influence of the resin type and homogenization method on the degree of separation of filler platelets in the polymeric matrix was examined (Figs. 2—5). The cured nanocomposites exhibited an increased tensile strength and stiffness as well as a fine-platelet morphology (Table 1). The addition of bentonites to the commercial resin reduced the flammability, by favorably increasing limiting oxygen index (Figs. 6 —8).
