Polyurethane elastomers filled with granulated rubber

Abstract

Results of the investigation of polyurethane elastomer filled with granulated rubber of grain diameter 2 mm, in amounts up to 90 wt. % (Table 2), have been presented. The elastomer was obtained from urethane prepolymer, synthesized from diphenylmethane 4,4'-diisocyanate, in which isocyanate groups concentration was 12 %. 1,4-butanediol was used as curing agent. Basic mechanical properties of polyurethane-rubber blends obtained, such as Shore hardness, tensile strength, elongation at break, volume loss at abrasion, were investigated. It has been found that with increase in filling of polyurethane elastomer all the properties investigated became worse (Figs. 1-4). However, the deterioration of the compositions' strength at filler content up to 30 wt. % does not limit their applications yet.
