This article is a review based on the publications mainly from the years 2000-2001. A brief characteristic of nanotechnology field has been done and basic terms have been defined. Recent ynamic development of scientific investigations on polymer anocomposites has been presented. Chosen methods of such anocomposites' assessment were described, A review of the illers used for nanocomposites preparation, different than ayered silicates (silica, metals and metal compounds, some ther compounds) as well as layered silicate (montmorillonite) as been done. The structures possible to be obtained were resented. Methods of preparation and functional properties od nanocomposites based either on the layered silicates or thermosetting polymers (epoxy resins, unsaturated polyester resins, polyurethanes, polysiloxanes) have been discussed.
