Modification of thermoplastic polymers with scrap paper cellulose fibres. Part 2. Modification of polyolefins with scrap paper cellulose fibres

Abstract

The process of preparing of PVC compositions filled with scrap paper cellulose fibres has been characterized. Cellulose filler made of scraps of daily papers offers at the same time reutilization of the cellulose material as well as let obtain biodecomposable plastics compositions. The effect of composition formulation (filler content, type and amount of plasticizers, processing modifiers, coupling agent and others) on the mechanical properties, water absorption and structure homogeneity of the compositions has been investigated (tables 1 and 2, figures 3-7). It has been stated that in the range 25-50 weight parts of plasticizer per 100 weight parts of PVC there is possible to introduce maximum up to 60 weight parts of cellulose fibres per 100 weight parts of PVC. Aminosilane appeared to be the most advantageous coupling agent. Polymeric materials obtained characterize high rigidity and hardness, nice surface appearance and good mechanical properties for selected applications (flower pots, buckets, fence elements and other profiles).
