Surface tension of plastics

Abstract

In the wide introduction the problems related to surface tension (...), characterizing this value both from theoretical side (equations of state) as from the practical one (indirect and direct methods of ... determination dependently on state of aggregation of the material investigated), were discussed. Experimental part of this work concerns the effects of three important factors - morphology (Table 4), roughness (Fig. 11-18) and temperature (Fig. 19 and 20) - on ... values of various amorphous or partially crystalline polymers [polyoxymethylene (POM), styrene/acrylonitrile copolymer (SAN), polystyrene (PS), polyethylene (PE-HD) and polyamide 6 (PA6)]. Basic observations lead to the following conclusions: spherulites sizes practically do not influence ... value; effect of roughness on surface tension is relatively small and concerns mainly the results based on the measurements of receding angle by indirect method; increase in temperature causes decrease in ... value.
