Silica nanofillers with immobilized silver or copper nanoparticles synthesized by sol-gel method

Abstract

Spherical nanosilica containing immobilized silver or copper nanoparticles was synthesized in a sol-gel process. Optimization of the important process parameterswas carried out by the investigation of the effects of solvents recycle, the use of technical TEOS instead of the distilled one and the application of isopropanol or butanol as a substitute for ethanol, on the properties of the obtained nanosilica (Tables 2 and 3). The dependence of the amount of the copper deposited on the surface of silica nanoparticles on the chemical structure of adhesion promoter was studied (Table 1, Fig. 3). The content of copper or silver was determined by using atomic absorption spectroscopy (Figs. 1, 2). X-ray diffraction confirmed the presence of metallic silver or copper (Fig. 4).
