Plasticization degree of extrudate obtained during autothermal work of screw-disc extruder

Abstract

The genesis and theoretical fundamentals of the own construction of autothermal screw-disc extruder are discussed. The geometrical features and processing possibilities of such equipment, used in experimental work (Fig. 2) are described. The conclusions drawn from simulations concerning pressure and temperature of polymer (PE-LD) on screw surfaces (active, passive and core ones) and inside the polymer, generated along the screw channel length (Fig. 1), are given. The results confirmed the wisdom of a theory of active feeding zone as it was proved that autothermal effect occurred during extrusion at low rotational speed of screw (Fig. 3). Extrudate obtained in such conditions shows interesting properties, differing from those shown by extrudate obtained in classical extruder. All this can predestine the equipment to use in recycled materials processing.
