Process-induced thermomechanical stresses give rise to crack initiation, crack growth, and final failure. Fundamentals of thermomechanical phenomena are presented (eqns. 1-8); possible reasons for stresses are outlined and illustrative CAD calculations are presented (Figs. 3-6).
