Review of the most important methods of controlled radical polymerization (CRP). Part II. CRP with atom transfer and its industrial applications

Abstract

This article is the second of a two-part series on controlled radical polymerization and is a continuation of the first part, which focused on the characterization of SFRP and RAFT methods [1]. A detailed description of novel modification methods of initiation, activation and deactivation in ATRP. New developments on the application of initiators for continuous activation regeneration (ICAR), activators generated as a result of electron transfer (AGET) as well as the regeneration of activators by the electron transfer mechanism (ARGET) are hereby presented. An analysis of the data presented in the literature has led to the conclusion, that in the recent years there has been a pronounced development in each of these methods enabling the synthesis of controlled polymers of high and low molecular weight, functionalized with various terminal groups, possessing unique topology (nanotubes, core-shell particles) or block copolymers.
